NOVEMBER /DECEMBER 2011 CALENDAR & NEWS ROUND UP
Ski Apache Prepares for 50th Season with November Opening
Ski Apache opened as Sierra Blanca Ski Resort during Christmas 1961. Today, as Ski Apache celebrates its 50th season on the slopes of Sierra Blanca, New Mexico’s southernmost major ski area is one of the most popular in the Southwest. Fifty-five trails and three terrain parks are served by 10 lifts and New Mexico’s only gondola, virtually eliminating long lift lines. Extensive snow-making capabilities stand ready to supplement, if needed, the area’s average annual snowfall of 15 feet, ensuring superb skiing and riding from Thanksgiving through late March.
Starting with its projected opening on Thanksgiving Day, the mountain is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Full price lift tickets are $54 for adults, $47 for seniors (60 years and older), $43 for military personnel, $45 for teens (13-17 years) and $34 for children under 13. Group ticket discounts are also available in addition to individual ski and snowboard equipment rentals, $20 for adults and $12 for children. Lifts run daily including holidays and more than 100 instructors are available daily for lessons. And with 15 feet of average annual snowfall in addition to its snowmaking capabilities, Ski Apache’s three terrain parks provide the hottest action on the mountain featuring five standard boxes, one rainbow box, three flat rails, one battleship rail, one flat-down-flat rail and one A-frame rail.
Upcoming Events on the Hill:
- Warren Miller Film – Nov. 19
- 3rd Annual Dummy Gelude Jump Competition and Torch Light Parade– Dec. 18
- Free Music on the Mountain and Terrain Park Competitions every other Saturday afternoon
- Kids Klub activities which take place on Sundays from Jan. 2 through Feb. 20
